EDuOPTS college essay coaching is specialized to each individual’s particular learning and writing styles
There are different types of essay writing and, depending on what you are writing for, the format and approach can change. For all college applications, whether through the Common Application, the Coalition Application, or a college’s proprietary application, Personal Essay is the most required type of essays. This essay is generally 550-650 words. Other types of essays are the Supplemental Essays which are required by individual colleges and are often unique to each college. Supplemental essays run generally 100-350 words, though some are as long as 650 words.
It’s generally important to understand that each college and university will look for something different when it comes to the admissions essay. Some colleges use the essay as a deciding factor for whether the student is to be admitted during a final round of evaluations, while others see the essay as having only a small effect on the final decision. Take some time to research how important your college admissions essay is to your school and why it is so important. Ask yourself:
- Does the school use the essay to see if you will be a good fit for their campus and curriculum?
- Does the school want to see the student’s creativity and originality that separates him from other applicants?
- Do they hope to admit students who have overcome challenges, showed leadership skills, or found themselves and their career path?
Our Approach
For some students, the greatest challenge of writing an essay is determining the topic. We coach student and provide him with key tips and pointers so that he can get started in the right direction and reveal an interesting aspect of his personal experiences, his intellectual interests, or his characters – no matter if his essay is designed to persuade the college admissions team that he is the right candidates, or if he is making his case to win a scholarship. The student writes a draft essay and we make suggestions about how to refine it so that the student’s voice comes through clearly and effectively.
